As such, CanBIM has brought together a distinguished and diverse group of BIM professionals with extensive experience ranging from Design, Build, Assemble and Operations. The Evaluation panel will consist of independent group of professionals to eliminate confilcts of interest.

Alex Bahan

VDC / BIM Manager, CHANDOS Construction

Alex is BIM Manager at Chandos Construction Ltd. He has been in the construction industry for over 16 years in various facets, from the Oil and Gas industry to several Residential and Commercial projects outside and in Canada. Alex graduated in 2000 with a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering .

Daniel Barbeau, Eng., M.Eng

BIM Director - North America, Groupe Canam

Daniel Barbeau, M. Eng. holds a Master’s degree  in Industrial Engineering from École Polytechnique de Montréal. He holds the position of BIM Director – Development and Operations North America at Canam Group. His work is oriented around lean manufacturing principles applied to the 3D modeling construction processes. He promotes BIM through various groups and teaches, as a lecturer at École de technologie supérieure (ETS), the course MGC847 - Maquettes numériques de conception et construction (BIM)

Éric Bernier, ACI, CanBIM CP

Président, Stratège BIM, Zenit Consultants

Zenit Consultants was founded in 2009 by Eric Bernier, an architectural technologist by trade who was just finishing a contract with a local Autodesk reseller. He started using Revit in 2002 and trained over 800 people on the software, marking their first steps on the BIM road. Certified Expert in Revit and Autodesk ACI . Trainer implantateur , coach, strategist and pioneering BIM Revit Quebec.

Tina Bos

Senior Structural Technologist / BIM Manager, Herold Engineering

Tina Bos is a Senior Structural Technologist / BIM Manager with Herold Engineering on Vancouver Island.   She is Chair of the Canadian BIM Council’s Designers Committee, Vice Chair of the Women in Construction Nanaimo chapter and Chair of her local Revit Users Group.  Tina is an avid Autodesk Revit Structure user, promoter and member of Autodesk’s Expert Elite.  She is also a popular speaker on the topic of Revit Structure at Autodesk University and the Revit Technologies Conference.

Jean-Marc Couffin

Coordonnateur BIM, M.ARCH, Provencher Roy

Trained architect both in France and in the USA, Jean-Marc worked in Singapore, Vietnam, France, Czech Republic before joining Provencher Roy Architectes Associés 5 years ago in Montreal. His main area of focus for the past year has been developing and implementing company BIM standards and methods. He dedicates himself to build coworkers efficiency and is always on the look for innovative technologies that can improve design practice. Jean-Marc’s experience includes creating and managing complex BIM models and projects for the Agence Métropolitaine de Transport, the Place des Arts, the Canadian Space Agency or TPSGC.  

Saji Darali

M.Arch, CanBIM CP, Turner Fleischer Architects

Saji has over 15 years of experience in design and construction across large-scale projects in Canada and internationally with focus on BIM implementation, collaboration, automation and enabling data interoperability between various platforms. With a background in architecture and strong programming and IT skills, he is always seeking innovative solutions that will take BIM into the next level.

Dan Doherty

C.E.T., B.Tech, CM BIM Manager of Virtual Construction, Clark Builders

Daniel is Manager of Virtual Construction at Clark Builders in Edmonton, AB. He has over 15 years experience in the AEC industry starting as a construction laborer. As a certified Architectural Technologist (C.E.T.), he gained experience in the multiple facets of design and construction and played a lead role in the adoption of BIM technology. During his time at Clark Builders he earned his bachelor’s degree in Technology Management(BTech), a Certification of Management in BIM (CM BIM) and continues to implement tools, develop processes and advocate Building Information Modelling. Daniel is Vice Chair of the Alberta center of excellence for BIM (aceBIM) and has presented at various BIM conferences including Autodesk University (AU) and the Revit Technology Conference (RTC).

Rebecca Di Cicco

Director, Digital Node

Rebecca De Cicco has always had a keen interest in digital technologies and how they can radically change the way we work and interact in the Built Environment. Having studied and been employed in Australia as an Architect the basis for her experience involved managing and training teams to utilise technology and interact with those ready and willing for change to enable a more efficient workflow. 

Rebecca lived in the UK for almost 10 years and following a series of successful senior roles in varied architectural organizations, Rebecca now manages her own consultancy, Digital Node, providing advice and insight to construction professionals globally on advanced digital solutions on projects as well as BIM implementation and management processes. It is with this knowledge that she can communicate, train and manage teams in a BIM environment as well as ensure her knowledge is spread throughout the industry within education and not for profit groups.

Rebecca supports Building Smart globally, sits on the Autodesk Developer Network and Expert Elite groups and works with the UK BIM Alliance and BIM Regions to help industry upskill. She is a strong advocate for diversity (Chair of @WomeninBIM) and works with higher education by tutoring and lecturing both undergraduate and postgraduate students in BIM and Construction Management.  Rebecca is also a fellow of the CIOB and offers support and training to the likes of BSI, CIOB, RICS and other institutions in the BIM space. Her interest in training and upskilling also involves a strong social media presence for herself (@becdecicco), her organization (@digital_node) and finally her diversity group (@WomeninBIM).

John Hale

Chief CAD/BIM, Department of National Defence & BuildingSMART Canada

John Hale is the Chief of CAD/BIM for the Department of National Defence. For 22 + years, John has been active in developing, implementing and managing CAD, GIS and BIM applications and solutions for both AEC and Real Property within the federal government of Canada.  John is an active member of many industry organizations and interest groups related to the implementation of BIM in Canada. John is the current chair of the Operations Committee of buildingSMART Canada, and sits on the Steering Committee for the Institute for BIM in Canada. John’s current focus is on implementing the DND Real Property Spatial Information Management Framework which will steer the integration of master real property spatial data with master business data while enabling enterprise level Building Information Modeling (BIM) tools and processes.

Wissam Hijazi

VDC Consulting and International Manager, EllisDon Construction

Wissam has an extensive 13 years of experience in the construction industry. He is an architect and holds a Masters degree in Construction Management and has been involved in BIM/VDC deployment technology for the last 9 years, performing research and running projects. He started his career as a Project Architect working with design consultants on various projects in the Gulf Area, Middle East. Currently as a VDC Manager (Virtual Design and Construction), he is responsible for BIM/VDC set up, implementation and utilization of BIM standards and best practices for various projects as a part of preconstruction and PM services. He provides design assist services for P3 Design Build projects and manages BIM execution plans with consultants and trades. He mentors project managers and coordinators on the the uses of BIM and promotes the utilization of BIM on project construction sites. Moreover, he is a member of the innovation Committee at EllisdDon working on developing integration protocols between asbuilt BIM and CMMS platforms.

Daniel Hurtubise

VDC/BIM Manager, Renzo Piano Building Workshop

VDC/BIM Manager for Renzo Piano Building Workshop, Daniel’s role is to support the office in the use of BIM related technology. Daily tasks range from user support, to meeting planning, and project start up. Daniel is also responsible for staying at the forefront of technology. Even though RPBW is a workshop and uses a lot of traditional methods, several cutting edge technologies are also employed. Revit is used daily as the foundation of the project geometry; tying this information into different systems and ensuring compatibility is one of Daniels’ chief responsibilities.

Le Hien Huynh

Sustainability/BIM Coordinator, Division 15 Mechanical

Le Hien is leading Division 15’s BIM department. As a BIM Coordinator, she develops detailed, custom process to successfully execute BIM. Over the past 5 years, Le Hien has provided leadership in the development of Division 15’s BIM standards and procedures. She collaborates with general contractors, subtrades, and office/site personnel to ensure the smooth execution of BIM. She develops 3D models for clash detection, creation of bill of Materials and fabrication drawings.

George Ikonomakis

National Manager of Virtual Design and Construction / BIM, Bird Construction

George Ikonomakis is the National Manager of Virtual Design and Construction / BIM for Bird Construction, a leading General Contractor in Canada with offices coast to coast and headquartered in Toronto. As the National Manager, George has brought Bird to the forefront as one of the "Major Players" in Canada incorporating Virtual Construction using BIM tools. The challenge was not only focusing on the national development of implementing VDC/BIM, but to also be aware of the regional demographical needs for each branch office. Bird’s involvement in the various multisectors, such as : commercial; institutional; industrial; infrastructure and water waste management has allowed Bird, through George's leadership, to successfully run Virtual Construction projects to maximize the benefits of reduced rework and to meet project deadlines ahead of schedule and on budget. George graduated as an architectural technologist and has worked for over 15 years in the AEC industry. His first experience with BIM tools was in 2005 and shortly thereafter was appointed as BIM lead to champion the implementation of BIM tools. George spent 4 years as a BIM Consultant for an international certified Autodesk Training Partner prior to his current role at Bird Construction. As a consultant he travelled throughout North America, training, mentoring and implementing BIM Tools to major Architectural, Structural and Construction firms.

Ivanka Iordanova

BIM Director, Pomerleau Inc.

Dr. Ivanka Iordanova, LEED AP, is a diplomaed architect and has a Master’s and a PhD degree from the Université de Montréal. She spent numerous years in academia contributing to research related to collaborative design and creativity, to digital media and building performance, to BIM and know-how modeling. Her teaching experience includes digital architecture studios, courses on modeling and integrated design, multidisciplinary design studios, and more recently BIM. After a post-doc in the GRIDD of the ETS, she integrated Pomerleau as BIM Director. There she actively works for innovation, collaboration and better productivity in the construction industry through the adoption of new technology (BIM), and better planning and management (Lean construction).  

Yogi Ishwar

BIM Manager, B.Arch. IIA, COA, CanBIM CP, IBI Group

Yogi has worked within the AEC portfolio for over eighteen years and uses his expertise in training, support, mentoring, and implementation services within IBI Group – Design Technology. He holds a Bachelor of Architecture Degree from the School of Planning and Architecture in India and specialised in Urban Design from University of Sydney, Australia. Additionally, he has a Diploma in Graphics and Animation from the Institute of Multimedia Arts and Graphic Effects from India, an Autodesk Authorised Trainer, Autodesk Certified Implementation Expert (ICE), Autodesk Certified Revit Professional and a Canada BIM Certified Professional. Prior to joining IBI Group, he worked for an Autodesk Platinum Reseller as highly respectable BIM Implementation expert and Instructor and has trained over eight thousand Autodesk users both in United States and Canada. As a BIM consultant he has also helped many AEC professionals’ transition and leverage technology, identify best practices and methodologies for integrating BIM and mobile applications into everyday workflows in all phases of design. In his early career he worked in Dubai as a Junior Architect and Planner where he was involved in the Conceptualization, Design, Development and Management of diverse international projects across Asia, the Middle East, and North America. Some of the projects worked in past our Burj Al Arab, Dubai and Toronto South Detention Center, currently he manages the BIM implementation for Eglinton Crosstown LRT – Crosslinx Transit Solutions Design.

Susan Keenliside

President & CEO, S8 Inc. & BuildingSMART Canada

Susan Keenliside is a subject matter expert in building information modelling (BIM) at S8 Inc., an advisory consulting company to public owners, private industry and educational institutions. With 10 years in the field, she has had the opportunity to focus on topics such as standards & guidelines, strategic and execution planning, requirements definition and competency assessments. She sits on multiple buildingSMART and ISO committees, and was a juror for the buildingSMART International BIM Awards 2014. 

Tero Laine

Technical Manager, BuildingPoint Canada

Tero has worked with advanced Building Information Modeling solutions for 20 years. After working first as a structural designer in mid 90’s he joined Tekla Corporation. During this time Tero played a key role in both developing Tekla Structures for different areas of construction industry as well as implementing progressive BIM solutions for companies all over the World.

After Tekla Corporation Tero joined BuildingPoint Canada as the Technical Manager. BuildingPoint Canada supports design-build-operate lifecycle in Canadian construction industry. It’s customers have many different roles in construction process: structural designers, steel, precast and rebar detailers and fabricators, and all aspects of CIP concrete construction, for example concrete contractors, formwork providers and self-performing general contractors. All striving for more automated design and construction with models being used from early design all the way to automated fabrication and for more efficient, accurate and safe construction with less waste.

Juan Lepe

Architect MAAA, RAIC, LEED BD+C CanBIM CP

Juan Lepe is a certified CanBIM Professional and LEED AP architect with DIALOG Design. Originally from Mexico, Juan ran his own architecture practice in Mexico until immigrating to Canada in 1997. He became a certified architect in the province of Alberta in 2008 and has since worked on many projects such as Rogers Place. Juan is actively involved with BIM organizations, and enjoys collaborating and supporting the advocacy to BIM technology.

Amal Madanat

Director of Practice, North America, B+H Architects

Amal is the North America Director of Practice at B+H Architects and a member of the National CanBIM design committee. She has over 20 years of experience in structuring and leading BIM-enabled integrated delivery strategies. Prior to B+H, she worked with governments and many high-profile private clients on multi-million dollar projects. Amal has a strong background in process design as well as extensive knowledge in creating BIM frameworks and execution plans. She has also gained practical experience while managing several large, high-profile, award-winning BIM projects. Amal has leveraged this experience and gained a reputation as a pragmatic problem solver and systematic thinker. In addition to architecture and engineering degrees, she holds a certificate in Lean Six Sigma from the University of Toronto, is a LEED Accredited professional, and was a senior member at the American Society for Quality.

Mirra Maheden

Senior Virtual Construction Specialist, CanBIM CP, PCL Construction

Just short of the 30 year mark Mirra has been involved in AECO industry gaining a reputation for quality design and documentation and 9 years ago made the transition from traditional 2D to 3D modeling and is active in supporting others also transitioning through involvement in CanBIM, buildingSmart Canada, and the founder and chair of the local BIM user group in Edmonton, eBIMc.  And is now pioneering emerging technologies in Virtual Construction workflows to enhance PCL’s processes in proposals, pursuits, estimating, operations, using a variety of applications, FormIt, InfraWorks, Civil 3D, Revit, Navisworks, 3D Studio, A360, Glue, Field, Bluebeam and yes AutoCAD.

Laura Lee-Moran

Associate, National Manager of BIM Services, MCW Consultants Ltd.

As National Manager of BIM Services, Ms. Moran leads a group of highly talented modellers and designers using Revit as a program base.  She is responsible for developing and implementing companywide BIM standards and has a key role in developing project workflows and strategies for coordinating with other MCW offices and outside consultants.  She has also created companywide training sessions to ensure all offices are developing the models to a consistent level of quality and detail. 

Wendy Mok

Design Technology Manager, HOK

Wendy Mok is the Design Technology Manager of HOK Inc. (Canada).  Wendy graduated from the Academy of Art at the University of San Francisco.  With extensive experience in Interior Design, BIM & 3D modeling/rendering, she works to proactively support project teams and foster commitment to external and internal clients.

Reed Munro

C.Tech. Arch Dipl. BIM / VDC Technical Consultant, Cansel/SolidCAD

Reed has been working in the AEC industry for 17 years and with BIM exclusively for the last 9 years. He has work in almost all aspects for the AEC industry from land developers to sub trades. He also specializes in BIM work flows, Implementation, and construction modeling. Reed works with a field to finish attitude that incorporates hardware and software to get the job done. Whether it is with as-builts via 3d point clouds or field layout of BIM models Reed has developed workflows to streamline these processes. He also has extensive experience with consultants and has worked as a BIM manager and Support Specialist where he managed models, developed libraries & standards, and supported the technical staff. Reed has worked all types of commercial and Industrial project as large as 1.4 Billion. He is excited to have joined Cansel and looking forward to making BIM work for you! Reed has developed strong relationships with our customers and heavily involved with the Edmonton BIM Community. He is currently working on implementing building information modeling strategies in large to small companies plus he also designed and taught the BIM 101 & 201 class at the Edmonton Constructions Association.

 

Reed also has a wide array of knowledge of many different software platforms within his tool box that incorporates: Revit, Navisworks, BIMsight, BIM360, Digital Projects and also point cloud software such as Scene, Recap Pro and Edgewise.

Martin Neault

Major Projects BIM Leader, DIALOG  

Martin is the BIM Leader for major projects at DIALOG.  He is certified CanBIM BIM Professional Level 3.  He has over twenty six years of experience in CAD and BIM Management in Cultural, Education, Government, Healthcare, Hospitality, Mixed Use, Office, Recreational, Residential and Transportation projects.  Over the past decade, Martin has developed extensive and practical BIM Management expertise working with large architectural projects incorporating BIM planning, implementation, coordination, leadership, training, education, support and problem solving.  He is an active member of the Calgary BIM Community and the Dynamo User Group of Calgary.

Dorin Nita

Manager, Kenaidan

Dorin Nita , P.Eng , has over 20 years of international experience in construction industry working in Europe, Middle East and Canada.

Dorin is the Technical Service Manager for Kenaidan Contracting a member of  Obayashi Group.

He has been with Kenaidan   since 2000, and has been involved in a variety of different projects from Energy , Transportation , Institutional and Waste Water  sector, having a combined experience in the field and management. In his current role Dorin Nita is responsible for  the implementation and adoption of BIM technologies in construction.

Magdalena Ordyniec, M.Sc., CanBIM Certified Professional

VDC Consulting Manager, EllisDon

Magdalena has over 13 years of international experience in the consulting, construction and project management field working in Europe, Middle East and Canada, specializing in Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) in all project phases, from design through to construction. In her role as a VDC Consulting Manager at EllisDon she is responsible for managing business development strategies for the VDC Consulting group within a profit & loss environment, securing new work, creation of proposals, development and supervision of BIM production staff and processes related to the implementation of BIM for various EllisDon’s VDC services. She is managing continuous development of BIM standards and project specifications. She is working closely with the scanning and modeling team to ensure efficient data collection, model development, creation of as-builts and BIM-FM integration. As one of the first Certified Professionals of Canada BIM Council she is actively involved in promotion of BIM adoption in the AECOO industry. She supports professional organizations, colleges and universities in BIM implementation by taking part in conferences and networking events. 

Kirby Reycraft

Faculty, Civil & Building Technologies, Nova Scotia Community College

Kirby Reycraft is an accomplished instructor/educator in the Civil & Building Technologies Department at the Nova Scotia Community College. With more than 15 years experience plus years industry experience previous to this he has a keen interest in design and construction and it’s ever changing dynamic.  Having recognized the impact of Building Information Modeling, he has championed the inclusion of BIM content in NSCC’s curriculum.  That inclusion is in early days but he foresees content will increase each year providing employers with graduates well versed in the concepts.

Joseph Troppmann, B.E.S. M.Arch LEED®AP MRAIC OAA

Associate, Diamond Schmitt Architects

Joseph is an Architect with over 18 years of experience working on a broad range of large institutional projects. He has been a proponent for BIM adoption in the construction industry for over a decade, and has been a leader in BIM implementation. At Diamond Schmitt Architects Joseph continues to lead the development and refinement of BIM workflows between the design disciplines, contributing to the ongoing evolution of the construction industry in Canada.

Clint Undseth

VP Innovation, Stuart Olson Construction

Clint Undseth has always had an interest in how to improve and do things differently. “Over the last 8 years the focus has been oriented to Building Performance from collaborative design, construction and operating lifecycle with an emphasis on sustainability, reducing waste, and regenerative building. My curiosity has me studying how to effect positive change. Change is difficult and I’ve been fortunate to work in diverse environments where I’ve gathered important experiences and lessons learned regarding change management.”

Calin Vaida

Manager, Engineering and CAD Services (ECS), Plan Group Inc.

Calin holds a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Transilvania University of Brasov, Romania and Universite de Technologie de Belfort-Montbeliard, France. He started his career in 2001 at ICCO Systems, in Romania, as an electrical engineer. He started at Plan Group as an electrical designer in 2007, when he moved to Canada. His role at Plan Group has evolved from designing and coordinating the electrical systems to performing BIM coordination and leading the project teams on large construction projects.

 

Currently, Calin manages the Engineering and CAD Services department at Plan Group. Part of his role includes creating, monitoring and improving Plan Group’s internal processes and procedures. This enables the company to provide high quality and on schedule construction design deliverables, including BIM related items, to its clients. 

Carl Veillette, CanBIM CP

Chief technology Innovation Officer, BIM One Inc.

M. Veillette is a BIM, VDC and CIM specialist, co-founder of BIM One Inc. and BIM Track®. He is vice-chair of the member program at BuildingSMARTCanada and involved in GroupeBIMQc and CanBIM. He spoke in events like DCW (London), ORUG (Toronto), BIMWorld (Paris) and GroupeBIMQc (Québec). After 9 years in the industry, he had worked on more than 25 BIM projects for manufacturers, cities, owners, engineers and architects.
