Brian Crombie, as Chair of Transit Alliance, a GTA civic transit organization, will speak on Transformational Transit. Brian will review the critical role Connectedness and Social Capital plays in the prosperous development of Cities and Clusters. He will then show that as Cities grow, transit that allows that Connectedness to not only exist but improve, dramatically impacts the ability of Cities to prosper, create good high paying jobs and entrepreneurship. Brian will put forward the thesis of the software and hardware Cities need to have to be truly Connected and thereby Prosperous. Brian will quickly outline the research that supports this contention, show international examples of good transit development, provoke with some new innovations and some interesting ideas for Toronto and Canada and finish with some lessons learned.

Biographie

Brian Crombie is Chair of Transit Alliance, a civic organization in the Greater Toronto Area focused on supporting Transit and Transit Investment. Brian has an HBA from Ivey and an MBA from Harvard Business School where he graduated a Baker Scholar. Brian has worked in Strategic Planning, Corporate Development and Finance for the Walt Disney Company, Morgan Stanley, The Molson Companies and The Jim Pattison Group. He was SVP and CFO for Biovail Corporation and is currently CFO for the Ottawa Senators. He operates his own Merchant Banking Company providing financial and strategy advisory services including contract CFO, to a range of companies in the sports and entertainment, pharmaceutical, green energy, real estate development and other primarily growth industries. Brian Crombie is completing his DBA at ISM Paris and is studying Social Capital. In his doctoral research, his financial advisory work and in his role as Chair of Transit Alliance he has become convinced of the critical role Connectedness plays in the success of businesses and Cities. His Talk will focus on the hardware and software of building Connectedness in Cities.
