What is the opportunity?

As the Senior Bridge Engineer, you will be responsible for preliminary and detailed design of bridges and other civil structures, checking of designs and drawings, contract document preparation, reports, proposals, and structural assessment/inspections.

What will you do?

  • Analysis and detailed design of new bridges, bridge rehabilitations and evaluations, culverts and retaining walls.
  • Preparation of contract specifications
  • Participate in bridge and civil structure inspections
  • Preparation of structural reports
  • Supervision of bridge CAD technicians for production of drawings and project deliverables
  • Mentor other junior and intermediate team members
  • Review of construction shop drawings
  • Ability to lead and manage several large-scale bridge projects
  • Preliminary and detailed design of new bridges, culverts and retaining walls, and rehabilitation of existing structures;
  • Conduct inspections of existing bridges, culverts and retaining walls and prepare reports;
  • Prepare sketches for CAD staff and review CAD drawings;
  • Prepare technical construction specifications;
  • Liaise with contractors and owners during design and construction;
  • Develop project budgets and monitor progress;
  • Other duties as assigned.

What will you need to succeed?

  • Undergraduate degree in Civil/Structural engineering from an accredited university; Post-graduate degree would be an asset.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant bridge design experience.
  • Conversant with CHBDC (CAN-S6), MTO Structural Manual and MTO practices and policies, AREMA and City of Toronto standards.
  • Experience with TTC Design Manual, TTC Standard Drawings, and specifications would be an asset
  • Experience with Metorlinx Design Requirements Manual, Metrolinx General Guidelines for Design of Railway Bridges and Structures.
  • Registered or eligible for professional registration with PEO.
  • Strong background in analysis and design of concrete and steel bridges.
  • Knowledge of cable supported bridge design.
  • Must be proficient in verbal and written communication in the English language.
  • Conversant with the use of major Structural Analysis Software and AutoCad.
  • Be able to facilitate inter-discipline coordination and cooperation.
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplined team environment.
  • Must demonstrate a collaborative attitude in working with members of the Team.
