Predicting how our world will be impacted due to COVID-19 is difficult. Obviously this crisis has already affected the building industry from a productivity perspective and will have a permanent effect on how we consider safety for our workers. As we consider these impacts we should expect an additional level of  attention in design to be paid to Infectious Disease Control beyond Hospital environments. We should therefore expect that architectural design and specifications, specifically the physical gateways that control our built environment, will accommodate the technology systems and processes necessary to keep Society safe. What role will infectious disease specialists play in the design process? How will building’s IOT strategy accommodate and collect the data required to help Society perform epidemiological contact tracing? What will be the new requirements for design?  How will this impact existing buildings and future projects? What are the long term supply chain implications? We are gathering the top minds in Canada to start the discussion around this subject. Please join us!

Incident rates in the construction industry have remained stagnant for years. The industry also bears a disproportionate share of workplace fatalities of any industry. It's clear that a new approach to managing safety is required.

From fraud prevention to data security to customized searches and movie recommendations, AI is transforming our daily lives. AI is also bringing staggering change to the way other industries execute - going beyond digitization of traditional processes to digital transformation, or the creation of entirely new and more efficient ways of doing business.

Predictive-Based Safety (PBS) is at the intersection of incident and injury prevention and AI, it's the beach head that AI is building in the construction industry. When we think of VDC we often think of new builds with data rich models and all of the opportunities that they provide us. Reality capture technology has presented us with that same level of opportunity on any renovation project as well. I will present how our team used laser scanning to improve the renovation of a heritage planetarium; How it sped up as-builts dimensioning and shop drawing creationg, how it increased confidence in the final designs, and how it allowed us to have a zero wait time install. We will then discuss how this process can be applied to any renovation project. This presentation will review the use the BLK 360, Recap Pro, Bloom Cloud Engine, and point clouds in AutoCAD. It will teach you how to speed up design, as-built dimension (reducing travel), verifying design, and simplify install.Learning objectives:

Remobilizing our Cities After a Pandemic

Currently, many large cities are closed as governments and public agencies tackle the ongoing pandemic and try to understand how to safely reopen. As people stay at home, we see a drastic reduction in transit usage. However, we also know this is temporary. We anticipate that once we begin returning to work that ridership will increase and with that will come new challenges for mitigating the risks associated with large groups and people being in close proximity. Pedestrian modelling is a valuable tool that will allow owners and operators of infrastructure or buildings to test their mitigation strategies and quantify the impact it has on people movement and the density of people. This presentation will outline various ways that pedestrian modelling is being used to efficiently test and inform scenarios as we collectively seek to reopen our cities. Attendees will learn the following:

  1. The transfer of information from BIM to pedestrian modelling software, and how to improve model efficiency by prioritizing relevant geometry
