Tell us about your background and why you chose to dedicate your time to the CanBIM community?

In my 40+ year career in Facility Management, I have seen the value of giving back through volunteering. On occasion, I have come across an organization that embraces the volunteer. They do this by providing an infrastructure that supports them as they align with the organizational goals, gives them space to “do”, and encourages the volunteer; Building Transformations (CanBIM) is one such organization. Last fall I participated in my first virtual Building Transformations (CanBIM) event. The marketing, registration, virtual platform, subject matter, speakers; were all seamless, focused, and first-class.

What could the industry do overall to provide better support for the development of new innovations?

One of the initiatives we are launching on the Digitization and Data Think Tank is creating an Annual Data Survey. The results of this survey will inform our future strategies and Task Groups we undertake each year. More on those initiatives later next summer but for now, yes, the industry could do a better job in collaboration and transparency. I believe Building Transformations (CanBIM)  has undertaken great strides to accomplish this.

What interests you most about the future of the AECOO industry?

Historically, the various professions within the AECOO industry have operated in solos. Digitization, pandemics, climate challenges, natural resources, supply chain issues, are all helping us to grasp the concept that we are globally and locally interconnected. Imagine a day when we see each other and work together towards a common sustainable goal.

What does it mean to you to have received the 2021 Trailblazer Award?

Humbled beyond belief.
