Professional Hours

Professionals who have taken a BIM-related program or course can reduce the number of professional hours required to obtain P1 Certification (please review the application for more details):

  • 0-1000 hours of work experience with BIM theory.

Experience Summary

The information and details provided in the application will be assessed to determine if the applicant has, through professional experience:

  • An understanding of the general knowledge of the Building Information Modelling (BIM) process, its most basic and essential concepts, and technical aspects.

CanBIM P2 Certification

Pre-Requisite

Professionals applying for P2 certification must be P1 certified or be able to demonstrate that they meet the requirements of P1 when applying directly to the P2 level.

  • 0-1000 hours of work experience with BIM theory.
  • 0-2000 hours of work experience with BIM software.

  • Command of the technical skills/application of tools, software and working methods within the BIM process.

CanBIM P3 Certification

Pre-Requisite

Professionals applying for P3 certification must be P2 certified or be able to demonstrate that they meet the requirements of P2 when applying directly to the P3 level.

Professionals who have taken a BIM-related program or course can reduce the number of professional hours required to obtain P3 Certification (please review the application for more details):

  • 2000-3500 hours of work experience with BIM management.
  • 2500-6000 hours of work experience with BIM software.

Experience Summary

Software

The information and details provided in the application will be assessed to determine if the applicant has, through professional experience:

  • Mastered an advanced proficiency in the use of software and computer application related to the BIM process and
  • Provided a sufficient descriptive summary in the use of BIM-related software within a building and/or infrastructure-related discipline

Management

The information and details provided in the application will be assessed to determine if the applicant has:

  • Through professional experience, successfully mastered the management of the BIM process as related to the business, project, design or construction management aspects of a project within the applicant’s designated discipline
  • A command of the management plan and protocols in a management/administrative role in building and/or infrastructure projects within a multi-discipline Building Information Modelling process.

CanBIM CP Certification

Pre-Requisite

Professionals applying for CP certification must be P3 certified or complete the P3 application when applying directly to the CP level. The P3 application is included within the body of the CP application for convenience.

Professional Hours

Professionals who have taken a BIM-related program or course can reduce the number of professional hours required to obtain CP Certification (please review the application for more details):

  • 2000-3500 hours of work experience with BIM management.
  • 2500-6000 hours of work experience with BIM software.

Experience Summary

The information provided in the application will be assessed to determine if the applicant has provided sufficient evidence of their professional experience in the implementation and facilitation of multiple projects utilizing a fully integrated multi-discipline Building Information Modelling process.

Assessment targets to be considered are:

  • Defining the standard Building Information Modelling processes and established the Building Information Modelling implementation strategies for those projects.
  • Developed company-wide implementation strategies for the adoption of Building Information Modelling practices within their organization.
  • Developed the organizational execution plan and Building Information Modelling procurement plan using the Building Information Modelling planning protocol to assess level of detail requirements for BIMs using the Level of Development (LOD) framework of Development (LOD) framework.
