Building Transformations Board Elects Pietro Ferrari as New Interim Chair, Thomas Strong Assumes Board Seat and Retains President & CEO Responsibilities

The Building Transformations Board of Directors is pleased to announce the election of Pietro Ferrari as the Interim Chair of the Board of Directors. This appointment follows the decision of Thomas Strong, the outgoing Chair, to step back from his role as Chair while retaining a Board seat and continuing to serve as President and CEO. Pietro will maintain the Chair responsibility until the new Board of Directors selects a new Chair after the organization’s fall annual meeting of the members.

Pietro has been an integral part of Building Transformations (formally CanBIM) for the past ten years, making significant contributions to the organization's growth and success and he has been serving as the Vice Chair since 2020. His dedication, expertise, and visionary leadership have been instrumental in shaping the organization's strategies and initiatives.For the last 20 years, Pietro has been a Faculty member of George Brown College’s School of Architectural Studies in Toronto and Coordinator of its Architectural Technology Program where he has helped lead the adoption and integration of modern digital technologies and processes into the school’s curriculum. 

During his tenure on the Board, Pietro played a pivotal role in founding the organization's Certification program, which benchmarks industry-recognized levels of competency in BIM/Digital Project Delivery. Pietro also takes a lead responsibility and organizes and executes the annual Awards program, which is widely recognized as the most prestigious of its kind for the building technology and innovation community. His commitment to innovation and his ability to bring stakeholders together have resulted in numerous transformative initiatives that have had a lasting impact on the building industry.

Thomas Strong, co-Founded CanBIM in 2008 while leading Technology initiatives at EllisDon and has served as Chair since 2016.  Thomas has led CanBIM with remarkable dedication and vision. During his tenure, he oversaw a period of tremendous growth and expansion for the organization. In addition to general oversight, highlights include establishing the organization’s governance & strategic planning practices, the creation of the organization's program framework,  the establishment of the Think Tank structure, Executive oversight of the events program and championing CanBIM’s brand transition to Building Transformations.  

In addition to his responsibilities at Building Transformations, Thomas is currently principal of a management consultancy focused on Innovation and technology for the construction industry;  wired.construction. His strategic guidance and unwavering commitment to fostering a community for building innovation leaders has positioned Building Transformations as a leading force for progress and technology driven Innovation in the industry.

As Thomas Strong transitions from the role of Chair to focus on his responsibilities as President and CEO, the organization will continue to benefit from his extensive experience and valuable insights as he retains his Board seat. Thomas will work closely with Pietro and the Board to ensure a seamless transition and to support the organization's ongoing success.

Pietro expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in him, stating, "I am deeply honoured to assume the role of Chair for Building Transformations as we prepare the organization for its next stage of expansion.
